Family Level Searching
Experience the power of Analytics' new family search mode, where each patent family is searched and displayed as a unit of data.
This broadens a search to provide more inclusive search results, reduces the risk of missing relevant search results, and is a valuable assess to FTO searching - allowing the entire patent family to be considered and reviewed as a unit of data.
To get started, simple change your search mode from 'Publication to 'Family' mode in the following search tools: Simple, Field, Expert, Classification and Expand search.
Note:
Only available for Patsnap family. You can only change the mode at the beginning of the search, not after conducting the search. When searching in family mode you have to search all databases.
Search results page - Family Mode
In the search results page a unique family ID next to each record and a 'Search Mode' icon to quickly identify the mode you've selected
To access "family mode" enter standard view of the search results page:
This feature allows you to identify family members which match your search query, highlighted in green, family members which don't meet the query requirements will not be highlighted. Additionally, enjoy the convenience of expanding your view to include up to 100 members.
Search results page - Analysis view
After conducting a family mode search, the Analysis View page found in your search results page will now present data at the family level. Each patent family is treated as a distinct unit of data for the subject matter in each chart.
This is a Premium Package feature and may not be available for Standard Package users.
Family Overview Page
Now when you click on a patent family ID, you can access the new family overview page, designed for saving and extracting important family-level insights!
Such as:
Family Keyword Match Analysis: provides a comprehensive analysis of how the keywords in your query align with each member in a Patsnap Family.
Family Legal Status Timeline: Displays the timeline of legal status activity (application/publish/grant/inactive) of the Patsnap Family.
Citations: Easily Identify the backward and forward citations of a Patsnap Family.
Exporting
When exporting you have the option to export the Family representative or All family members. If exporting all family members, a max of 500 families can be exported.
Additionally, there are 7 export fields specific to family mode:
- Patsnap Family | Publication Number
- Patsnap Family | Publication Date
- Patsnap Family | Authority
- Patsnap Family | Application Number
- Patsnap Family | Application Date
- Patsnap Family | Legal Status & Events
- Patsnap Family | Patent Type
When exporting the family representative using one of the field types mentioned above, you can export up to 3,000 family representatives at once, with a maximum of 30 additional family members' data displayed per row. The 30 family members displayed are chosen from newest to oldest based on publication date.
