Working with Hiro inside your Workspace: label, comment on, and analyze patents

Hiro is Patsnap's AI assistant, and it now interacts directly inside your Workspace.

Instead of moving between menus to filter, chart, tag, or annotate patents, you can ask Hiro in plain language and it will carry out the task on the patents in the folder you have open. This article covers four things Hiro can do for you inside a workspace: label patents, comment on patents, run facet (aggregation) analysis, and run trend analysis.

Opening Hiro

Open any workspace and folder, then click the Hiro button on the right-hand side of the screen to open the chat panel. Hiro's workspace actions always run against the folder you currently have open. Hiro in AI mode can also interact directly with your workspace, allowing multiple avenues of entry.
 

Type your request in the box at the bottom of the panel, or pick one of the suggested prompts to get started.

Custom field Management

If your folder uses custom fields, you can ask Hiro to tag patents for you. Tell it the field and the value to set — for example, “Set the ‘workspace custom field’ to ‘test’ on patent EP2889014A1”. Hiro tags the patent with that value for any custom field in the folder, and can apply the label with folder context so it stays consistent across a patent family.

You only need to name the patent and the value you want — Hiro resolves the correct field option and locates the patent behind the scenes, then confirms exactly what was set.

Hiro also has the capability to create, and manage existing custom fields.

Comment Management

Hiro can add comments to patents — useful for capturing notes on patent value, risk, or next steps. Ask something like “Add a private comment to patent EP2889014A1: reviewed by IP team”.

You control who can see each comment by setting its visibility scope: PRIVATE (only you), WORKSPACE (everyone in the workspace), or ORG (your whole organization). Comments can also be added with folder context. Hiro confirms the comment text and its visibility once it's saved.

Facet (Aggregation) Analysis

Hiro can break your folder down by any dimension so you can see who the key players are and where the technology sits. You can:

• List the preset aggregation dimensions available — such as applicant distribution, IPC classification, and legal status.
• List the fields available for a specific folder before you analyze.
• Run a facet query against the folder — by preset or by a raw field — and narrow it with keyword filtering or drill down into a specific value.

For example, “Run a facet analysis on this folder by legal status” returns a breakdown of the folder by legal status, which Hiro then charts and summarizes in plain language.

Example prompt: 

Trend Analysis

Ask Hiro to chart how filing activity has changed over time and it will pull the dates straight from your folder. A request such as “Run a trend analysis on this folder by application year” builds a time-series based on application, publication, or priority date.

Hiro automatically computes year-over-year growth and cumulative counts, and fills any missing years with zero so the trend line is complete. Every bar is interactive — click one to see the patents filed that year.
