In this video, you’ll get an introduction to Patsnap Analytics and how to navigate the platform. You’ll learn what the tool is used for, how to access help and support, and where to find key resources like the help centre and data coverage. The video also highlights the recommended way to start searching, setting you up for the next step of using field search and Boolean techniques.

  • Welcome to the second video in the Basics to Analytics series.

Focus of this video: Simple Boolean language searching in Patsnap Analytics.
  • Begin in the field search, ideal for new searches in Patsnap.

Enter keywords related to technology or organization names.
  • Example: Searching for 'knee prosthetics'.

Input keywords in the title, abstract, and claims fields.
  • When entering 'knee prosthetic', it searches for both terms in the same document.

The gap between keywords represents an implicit AND operator.

  • Example: Searching 'prosthetic OR replacement'.

This expands the search to include either term, increasing results significantly.
  • To refine the search, use brackets: '(knee AND (prosthetic OR replacement))'.

This ensures both 'knee' and either 'prosthetic' or 'replacement' are in the same document.
  • Example: 'knee AND (prosthetic OR replacement) NOT elbow'.

This excludes results containing 'elbow', refining the search further.
  • Machine Translations allow searching through translated patent documents.

Patsnap supports translations in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
  • Always keep Machine Translations ON for comprehensive keyword searches.

You can toggle it off, but it may reduce the number of results.
