Synapse Lens

How to Use Synapse Lens

This video provides an introduction to Synapse Lens, the Chrome browser extension for Patsnap Synapse that transforms unstructured web content into structured biomedical intelligence. Learn how to install the extension, automatically identify and normalize key entities such as drugs, targets, diseases, clinical trials, and organizations, and seamlessly jump from highlighted web content back into Synapse for deeper analysis.

  • Synapse Lens is a Chrome browser extension for Patsnap Synapse.

It automatically highlights and normalizes key biomedical entities while you browse the web.

    It works across content like:

    Scientific literature

    Industry news

    Biotech company pipeline pages

The main benefit is faster reading and easier insight generation because important entities are identified for you.
  • Go to the top of the Synapse homepage.

Look for the section labeled Synapse Lens.

Click it to open the page where you can:

    Download the browser extension

Learn more about how it works and how to use it
  • After installing the extension, open a page in a separate browser tab.

In the example, a Genentech press release is used.

Synapse Lens can be used on any supported online content you want to review.
  • Click the extensions area in the upper-right corner of Chrome.

Launch Synapse Lens from the extension menu.

This opens the Synapse Lens interface for the current page.
  • Click Start Recognition.

Synapse Lens scans the page and identifies biomedical entities automatically.

It then overlays the page with highlighted and normalized terms.
  • Synapse Lens can identify and highlight entities such as:

    Drugs

    Targets

    Diseases

    Clinical trials

    Patents

    Compounds

    Organizations

This makes it much faster to understand the key information on the page.
  • Because Synapse Lens is powered by the Synapse Data Foundation, it can standardize terminology.

For example, if a page uses an internal R&D code or alternate name for a drug, Synapse Lens can normalize it to the standard generic name.

This helps reduce ambiguity and makes the content easier to interpret.
  • The highlighted entities are clickable.

Clicking an entity can take you directly back into the Patsnap Synapse platform.

From there, you can open detail pages and evaluate additional information about that drug, target, organization, or other entity.
