Introduction
You can view more details about a specific company within Discovery by taking a look at their profile page. There are various insights you can gleam from doing this for a company. This includes which markets they operate in both technologically and geographically, their financial information and their relationship with others.
This can be found by either searching specifically for that company or for a technology. You can then reach the company profile page by clicking into the company of interest either from the list of suggested companies from the initial search page or from the company results page.
Once you click into the company, you will then be taken to the following page:
The following 5 options are available anywhere within the company profile:
- Compare - Allows you to compare up to 4 companies with each other. This is described in more detail later.
- Follow - Allows you to personalize your news feed and receive the latest updates.
- View Corporate Tree - Allows you to view the corporate structure of a company. Finding out the structure of a company is important for multiple reasons, such as to find out their subsidiaries which may operate in a range of technology areas or to have a complete view of any mergers and acquisitions that have taken place. - Share Profile - Allows you to share a public link of a company profile to anyone. If a non-user clicks on this link, then they will have no drill-down, analysis features or left-hand side menu.
- Create Alert - Allows you to get updates on the company's activity across the data points of your choice. These updates will be sent to you via email on either a daily or weekly basis depending on your preference. You can find more details about alerts in the following section: Alerts.
Overview
The snapshot is a complete overview with the most important signals and insights of a company.
The top section of this tab provides a description of the company along with the key topics relating to it. In addition to this, you can see some basic info relating to this company.
Below this, you can see the "Data Snapshot" which provides you with the total count of items for each data type that this company has. This helps you understand where a company has focused more of their efforts in, and which data types do they have less activity in.
Next, you can see "High Related Market Segments" which shows the major market categories and sectors for the company. This helps you understand the main market segments a company operates in and to quickly find other related companies in those sectors.
Next, you can see "Innovation Word Cloud" which gives a quick overview of the company's technical portfolio using the top keywords and phrases extracted from the latest 5000 patents for them. This allows you to quickly understand the key technical terms related to this company and drill down to the patents that lie beneath.
Next, you can see "Innovation Matrix" which helps identify both the hot and blank application areas by visualizing the company's technical portfolio across multiple dimensions. This helps to understand their current technical portfolio and to identify white space or FTO opportunites.
Next, is "Subsdiary Geographic Distribution (with patent filing)" which shows the geographic spread for the patent filing of the company's subsidiaries. This helps to identify subsidiaries which have a specific focus with their R&D.
Finally, there is "Subsidiary Lists" which simply gives you a list of subsidiaries for this company.
Similar Company
This tab allows you to see other companies that are similar and compare their innovation strength with the company you are currently viewing. This helps you quickly find other companies with high technology similarity compared to a company of interest. This is a highly efficient methodology to find relevant companies.
Firstly, you have "Similar Companies" which lists the most similar companies compared to the viewing company. It shows the similarity score and the topics which have a high similarity for those companies.
The similarity score calculation is based on tech topics, industry and application domains labelled on the patent.
You also have "Innovation Strength Comparison" which allows you to directly compare the currently viewed companies against the top most similar companies from the list before.

Patent Quality
This tab gives you an overview of the patent filings of this company. This allows you to gain an understanding of the technology areas where this company is currently innovating within and where the focus of their investment lies.
The top section of this tab gives you an overview of this company's patent portfolio and some key numbers around them. In addition, you can decide to display subsidiary data in this section.
Below this, you can see the following charts:
- Simple Legal Status: This chart groups with a company's portfolio by simple legal status: Pending (patent application is under examination), Active (patent has been granted and is currently valid), Inactive (granted patent has expired, lapsed or been revoked), Undetermined (status is unavailable).
- Patent Type: This chart breaks down this company's patent portfolio by patent type, with those being: Granted Patents, Applications, Designs and Utilities.
- Application and Grant Trend: This chart shows the number of patent applications and the number of granted patents resulting from applications filed in the same year. This is helpful to understand the rate of applications over a period of time, whether the technology is recent, or whether it is heading towards stagnancy.
- Portfolio Value Distribution: Understand the strength of the patent portfolio based on the distribution of estimated patent valuation, with stronger portfolios having a greater proportion of their portfolio in higher value buckets.
- Technology Benchmark: This graph shows a company’s average estimated patent value by most prevalent IPC codes compared to the estimated industry average.
- Geographic Territory: This map shows the geographic coverage of a company’s patent portfolio across the contracting states to the European Patent Office (EPO) and the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO).
Funding
This tab gives you an overview of the funding that this company has received. This enables you to understand when the technology associated with this company was being supported and most likely was at it's early stages.
The top section of this tab provides you with a "Funding Overview" which gives you a snapshot of the key funding statistics and a cumulative trend of the funding.
Below this, you can see a "Funding Analysis" for this company, which provides you with various charts that dig deeper in terms of analysis, for this company's received funding.
- Funding Rounds: This chart shows the amount of funding this company has received in each of the different rounds.
- Funding Series of Venture Capital: If the funding that the company has received is from venture capital, then this chart will show you which series this funding was received in.
- Funding History: This table provides you with a list of the funding events that this company has received.
- Event News: This provides you with a list of the news that relate to the funding that this company has received.
Investment
This tab gives you an overview of the investments that this company has made into other organizations. This allows you to understand the technologies that this company is investing in and potentially planning to look into operating within in the future.
The top section of this tab provides you with an "Investment Overview" which gives you a summary of the investments this company and it's subsidiaries have made along with a list of it's top investing subsidiaries.
Below this, you can see an "Investment Analysis" for this company, which provides you with various charts that dig deeper in terms of analysis, for the investments that this company has made. You can also include data for subsidiaries here.
- Geographic Distribution: This chart shows you the geographic spread of the companies this company has invested in.
- Investment Portfolio: This graph shows you a trend of the amount of investment that this company has made along with the type of investment.
- Investment Series: This chart provides you with a breakdown of the funding series that this company have made their investments within.
- Top 10 Investment Industry: This chart shows you the top 10 industries that this company has invested in.
- Annual Activity: This graph provides you with a trend of the number of investments that this company has made.

The top section of this tab provides you with an "Acquisition Overview" which gives you a summary of the acquisitions this company and it's subsidiaries have made along with the top acquiring subsidiaries.
Below this, you can see "Acquisition Analysis" for this company, which provides you with various charts regarding the organizations that this company has acquired. You can also display subsidiary data here.
- Geographic Distribution: This shows you the geographic spread of the organization this company has acquired.
- Top Industries: This chart shows you the top 10 industries for the organizations that this company has acquired.
- Trend Overtime: This graph provides you with a trend of both the number of acquisitions this company has made along with the amount of money associated with these deals.
- Primary Deal Types: This chart provides you with a breakdown of the types of deal that this company made with the acquired companies.
- Target Ownership: This chart provides you with a breakdown of the type of ownership this company has in the acquired companies.
- Acquisition Characteristics: This provides you with a summary of the characteristics of the acquisitions that this company has made.

Finally, you can see an "Acquisition Timeline" which shows you when this company made it's acquisitions and the names of the company that were acquired.
Financial
This tab provides you with financial information based on this company's recent performance. This is important information as it gives you a true number-based reflection of how this company is doing and whether or not they are in an upward trend of performance.
- Market Cap: This graph provides you with a trend of the total value of this company's stock over a given time period.
- Revenue: This graph provides you with a trend of the revenue, net margin and gross product margin for this company over a given time period.
Next, you have the "Financial Statement", which allows you to view the "Income statement", "Balance sheet" and "Cash flow" for this company.
News
This tab provides you with details on the news that relates to this company. This is useful information since it allows you to understand how much this company's recent work has been reported on and how they may become a bigger player in their technology area due to this.
- Summary: This provides you with a summary of the key numbers relating to news for this company and it's subsidiaries.
- Top Contributing Subsidiaries: This provides you with a list of the top mentioned subsidiaries in news articles.
Below this, you can see "News Analysis" for this company, which provides you with various charts regarding the news for this company. You can also display subsidiary data here.
- Trend Of News: This provides you with a yearly trend over the last 5 years of the number of news items related to this company.
- Business Heatmap: This provides you with geographical distribution of the origin of the news relating to this company.
- News List: This provides you with a list of the most relevant recent news relating to this company.
Compare
This option allows you to compare up to 4 companies with each other using various different metrics. This is useful since it allows you to have a direct comparison between them and see which of them is the biggest player in this technology space.
- Market Cap: This graph provides you with a trend of the total value of these companies' stock over a given time period.
- Revenue: This graph provides you with a trend of the revenue, net margin and gross product margin for these companies over a given time period.
- Portfolio Size: This graph shows this companies' patenting activity in each given year. You can select which of the stages to show the graph in for each stage: Filed (patent application is filed), Published (patent application is published 18 months from the filing date), Granted (patent is granted and published in its final form).
- Portfolio Value: This graph shows the estimated total value of these companies' patent portfolio over a given recent time period.
- News: This graph provides you with a trend of the number of recent news items related to each of these companies.
- Funding Rounds: This chart provides you with a trend in the amount of funding that each of these companies has received in funding rounds within the last few years.
