Prosecution/Claim History

How to Use the Prosecution Claims History Tool in Patsnap

  • This feature is available for U.S. patents only.

You must have Analytics Premium access to see it.

Navigate to the Legal tab on the left side of the patent document.

    Open the File Wrapper section.
  • In the File Wrapper view, look for the blue Prosecution Claims History button in the top-right corner.

This tool works together with the Rejection tab, where you can review office actions and cited references.
  • The Rejection tab shows the prosecution history, including multiple rounds of rejections.

Cited references in 103 rejections are available through hyperlinks.

Use this tab to identify which rejection round you want to investigate further.
  • Click Prosecution Claims History to automatically display the relevant documents side by side.

This removes the need to manually download and arrange documents yourself.

The tool pairs the rejection with the related claims amendment for easier review.
  • In the Claims Amendment section, you will see a redline comparison.

This highlights changes between the amended claim set and the first published claims.

Use this view to quickly understand what was changed in response to the rejection.
  • Click the third button to open the rejection response in another pane.

    You can then review:

    the rejection,

    the claims amendment,

and the applicant’s responseside by side.

This gives a complete picture of the prosecution event.
  • The view initially shows the documents for the first round non-final rejection.

To review later prosecution events, use the toggle at the top of the screen.

Switch to the second round final rejection section when needed.
  • Use the X in the top-right corner to close the view.

You can return to the File Wrapper or Rejection tab to continue reviewing the patent record.
