How to Use the Citation Map in Patsnap Analytics

In this video, you'll learn how to use the Citation Map in Patsnap Analytics to visually explore patent citation relationships and uncover valuable insights. We'll cover how to launch the Citation Map from a patent record, understand its interactive layout, expand grouped records to view individual patents, and explore citation networks in greater detail. You'll also see how to preview patent information, use quick actions to focus your analysis, customize the map to suit your workflow, and save or export your results for reporting. By the end of the video, you'll be able to use the Citation Map to help accelerate your citation analysis.

• The Citation Map is an interactive way to visualize citation relationships around a patent record.
  
  It helps with several workflows, including:
  
  Identifying prior art
  
  Tracking how a technology has developed over time
  
  Evaluating competitors
  
  Finding licensing opportunities
• Open any patent record in Patsnap Analytics.
  
  Go to the Citation tab.
  
  In the top-right corner, click Citation Map to launch the visualization.
• Patsnap generates an interactive map centered on the selected record.
  
  The chosen record appears in the middle of the screen.
  
  Citing and cited patents branch out around it.
  
  By default, records are grouped by current assignee, which makes it easier to see which organizations are connected through citations.
  
  Use the legend in the top-left to understand icons such as legal status and citation type/source.
• Click the drop-down arrow on a assignee node to expand it.
  
  This lets you view the individual records within that company or group.
  
  Use this when you want to move from an organization-level view to a patent-level view.
• Select any record in the map to display a preview panel.
  
  The preview shows key information about that patent.
  
  This helps you quickly dive into further detail on records as needed.
• Look for the small plus icon next to a record.
  
  Click it to expand that record’s citation network.
  
  This reveals citations connected to that patent, helping you build out the map as needed.
• Hover over a record to access quick actions.
  
  Available actions include:
  
  Making that record the center of the analysis
  
  Highlighting the record so it stands out visually
  
  Temporarily hiding the record to simplify the map
  
  These tools help you focus on the relationships that matter most without getting overwhelmed.
• Open the Settings tab in the upper-right corner.
  
  Adjust options such as:
  
  Sorting behavior
  
  The patent card layout
  
  These settings control what information is shown for each record and how the map is organized.
• After customizing the map, you can save records directly to your workspace.
  
  You can export citation data for reporting.
  
  You can also download the citation map as a PNG image for use in presentations or reports.
• The Citation Map is designed to make citation analysis faster and easier.
  
  It supports both exploratory research and presentation-ready outputs.
  
  Use it to understand patent relationships for efficiently.
