Image Search

This video introduces the Image Search feature and demonstrates how to find relevant design patents and utility models using images instead of keywords. You'll learn how to upload images, refine your search with additional filters, and save the patents you discover.

• In PatSnap Analytics, go to Image Search from the left-hand navigation.
  
  Select the correct tab for your target document type:
  
  Design patents
  
  Utility models
  
  This ensures the search is aligned with the type of documents you want to find.
• Upload images saved on your computer.
  
  You can add up to four images to provide a more complete visual reference.
  
  Supported file formats:
  
  JPEG
  
  PNG
  
  Using multiple images can help represent the technology from different angles or perspectives.
• If the search may be too broad, add filters or fields to narrow the results.
  
  You can refine by things like:
  
  Company / assignee
  
  Keywords
  
  In the example, the search is refined with keywords related to a hairdryer.
  
  The transcript also recommends turning on machine translations to capture relevant documents that may not originally be in English.
• Once your images and filters are set, click Search.
  
  PatSnap offers two image retrieval approaches:
  
  Smart Recommendation: a strong starting point because it adds another layer of analysis and often improves result quality.
  
  Image Search: useful if the first results are not quite what you need and you want to explore different matches.
  
  If you are filtering for the first time, start with:
  
  Assignee filter
  
  Authority filter
  
  Simple Legal Status filter
• Results can be displayed in different layouts, including:
  
  Thumbnail view
  
  Full images view
  
  In thumbnail view, hovering over a patent image reveals quick-access icons.
  
  These icons let you jump directly into:
  
  Smart Recommendations
  
  Image Search
  
  This makes it easy to use a promising result as the starting point for a new search.
• The rest of the workflow is similar to other PatSnap search types.
  
  From the results page, you can:
  
  Export results
  
  Sort results by your preferred criteria
  
  Save results to the workspace
  
  Open a document by clicking the publication number or title
  
  You can also use Quick View to stay on the results page while reviewing key details.
  
  On the right side, you can inspect high-level information such as:
  
  Ownership details
  
  Related document information
  
  For a closer look at the visuals, open the Images section within the patent record.
