How to Use Semantic Search in Patsnap

• Hover over the 3x3 grid in the top-right corner of Patsnap.
  
  Open Analytics.
  
  In the left-hand menu under Patent Search, select Semantic Search.
  
  This is a quick starting point for finding patents and literature related to an invention or technology.
• Semantic Search accepts two input types:
  
  A block of text describing the technology or invention.
  
  A publication number for a specific patent or document.
  
  The search looks at meaning and context, not just keywords, so it can find conceptually similar documents even when terminology differs.
• If using text input, paste in a detailed description of the technology.
  
  For best results, use at least 200 words.
  
  Use the filter section to add any additional criteria before searching.
  
  If you want results to include literature as well as patents, check the box in the bottom-right.
• If you already have a patent of interest, enter its publication number.
  
  Patsnap will return documents that are semantically similar to that publication.
  
  For this search type, the most relevant filters are:
  
  Restrict to Prior Art
  
  Exclude Description Background
• Semantic Search returns a maximum of 1,000 documents.
  
  Even if more matches exist, you will only see up to 1,000 results in the interface.
• Click Search in the bottom-right corner to generate results.
  
  Results appear as a ranked list of the most relevant documents.
  
  Use these results to identify:
  
  Related technologies
  
  Freedom-to-operate risks
  
  Opportunities for further innovation
• If the number of records shown is not what you expect, the results may be grouped.
  
  Hover over the record count and select Ungrouped to view the full set of documents.

• Each result includes a relevancy score.
  
  The score shows how closely the document matches the meaning and context of your original input.
  
  Higher scores indicate stronger conceptual similarity.
  
  A 100% score means the result is an exact semantic match to the input document used in the search.
• If you included literature in your search, it will appear in the second tab at the top of the results page.
  
  You can continue refining the analysis by applying additional filters after results are returned.
• Semantic Search is one of the fastest ways to find relevant patents and literature in Patsnap.
  
  It is especially useful for quickly surfacing conceptually similar documents without relying only on keywords.
