Smart Image

Stop wasting time flipping between patent text and technical drawings. Smart Image connects them for you, letting you click a label in a figure and jump straight to the matching text or select a highlighted text reference to find the exact component in the image. Take your workflow one step further by pairing it with the dual view for a seamless side-by-side experience that makes even complex patents faster and easier to understand.

• Smart Image helps you connect a patent’s written text with its technical drawings/images.
  
  It is especially useful when patents reference figures, labels, or components throughout the claims, description, etc.
  
  Instead of manually flipping between pages or scrolling back and forth, you can view related text and images together.
• Start by opening the patent from either:
  
  a search results page, or
  
  a workspace folder.
  
  You can open it by clicking the patent’s publication number or title.
  
  This takes you into the patent view, where the document sections are available for review.
• In the patent view, select the Images section.
  
  In the upper-right corner, find the Smart Image toggle and turn it on.
  
  This activates the linked view between the patent text and the image labels.
• For a more efficient workflow, switch to Dual View from the upper-right corner.
  
  Dual View lets you display two parts of the record at once, such as:
  
  Images on the right
  
  Description on the left
  
  Make sure the Smart Image toggle is still turned on in this view.
• Once Smart Image is enabled, labels in the image become hyperlinked.
  
  Clicking a label takes you directly to where that label is mentioned in the text.
  
  If a label appears multiple times in that section, use the arrow controls to move through each instance.
• Smart Image works bidirectionally.
  
  In the text, you’ll see green underlined references.
  
  Clicking one of these underlined references takes you directly to the associated image label or figure.
  
  This makes it easier to identify the exact component being discussed.
• Smart Image reduces the need to constantly scroll between text and figures.
  
  It makes complex patents easier to read and review
  
  Overall, it streamlines patent analysis by keeping the text and drawings connected.
